The Fingerboards Project provides many opportunities for employment and procurement of goods and services over a 15-20 year period.

We have a local employment and procurement policy and will give preference to locals where we can.

The project is anticipated to generate 200 direct jobs during construction and 200 jobs during operations. A further 200 indirect jobs are expected to be generated in the East Gippsland community.

Job opportunities during mine operation on the project cover a wide range of skills and qualifications, including:

  • Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Mining, Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic), Geology, Metallurgy, Drafting, GIS
  • Planning, Surveying, Laboratory Technician
  • Accounting, Bookkeeping, Payroll
  • Administration, Marketing
  • Human Resources, Training, Occupational Health & Safety
  • Environmental, Rehabilitation, Community Consultation, Communications
  • Procurement, Storeman, Freight & Logistics
  • Plant Operators (Excavators, Dozers, Scrapers, Dump Trucks, Drill Rig), Truck Drivers, Crane Drivers
  • Tradesmen (Mechanics, Electricians, Fitters), Maintenance
  • Supervisors, Managers, Superintendents
  • Field Officers, Process Plant Operators, Technicians

Kalbar is working internally and with employment and training organisations to identify strategies to increase opportunities for local workers to gain employment on the project.

Through education and training providers and apprenticeship and support networks, Kalbar intends to:

  • Support work placement programs
  • Support the GROW Gippsland project
  • Support apprentice and traineeship programs and work to attract local Indigenous youth
  • Work with local training providers
  • Provide students with an understanding of the breadth of employment available on the project
  • Take young people, including Indigenous young people, on tours of the mine site to make them aware of the range of employment opportunities on the project
